Utaibah
Utaibah
Major tribe in the land lying between the Nejd and the Hijaz.

The Utaibah lived in central Arabia, from Taif in the Hijaz to the center of Nejd. They shifted between Saudi and Hashemite protection until 1915-1916, when they became an Ikhwan tribe.

Sultan bin Humaid led the Rutba section and was their most important leader. During the 1920s there were fractions led by Naif bin Humaid and Ubayd bin Humaid. Abdul-Rahman bin Rubayan led the Ruqba section. Khalid bin al-Luay came from the Utaibah, although he functioned as the Amir of Khurmah and led his townspeople.

The Utaibah participated in all the Saudi expansionist campaigns, notably those into the Hijaz. They participated in the Ikhwan revolt in 1929-1930 and lost some power after the Ikhwan’s subjugation.
