Function: Runs the Dammam-Riyadh railway.

The Saudi Arabian Railway Corporation was founded in 1976 to operate the single track, standard gauge line running 563 kilometers connecting Dammam Port, on the Gulf, with Riyadh.

The Corporation is now called the Saudi Government Railroad Organization. It is a public utility, governed by a board of directors.

The building of the railway was initiated by King Abdul Aziz (Ibn Saud) after visiting Egypt in 1946 and was opened in 1951. A second line between Hofuf and Riyadh was completed in 1985.
