The proclamation of the state of Israel prompted the Arab League to despatch troops to the region. The Arab League force consisted predominantly of soldiers from Egypt, Iraq, Lebanon, Syria and Transjordan. Ibn Saud sent a brigade of Saudi soldiers from his newly-trained army to support the Arab League's cause.
Ibn Saud felt strongly about Palestine and he and his representatives had taken every opportunity to present the Arab case. With the declaration of the state of Israel, Ibn Saud felt it necessary to show his solidarity with the Palestinians by despatching troops.
