The Japanese had been quick to realize the significance of the Socal/Casoc oil strike in the Kingdom. They had sought an oil concession of their own, which Ibn Saud had declined to grant. When, however, they sought a general treaty of friendship and trade with the Kingdom, Ibn Saud was content to sign.
