Prince Saud, the second son of Ibn Saud, was formally named as Crown Prince and heir to Ibn Saud's Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
Prince Saud had been next in line to his father's Kingdom after the death of his older brother, Prince Turki, in 1919.
Prince Saud was unable to attend the ceremony in the Grand Mosque in Makkah. It was Prince Saud's younger brother, Prince Faisal, who received the vows of loyalty, on his behalf.
