First private radio network set up in Ibn Saud's Kingdom
Primarily to facilitate communication between himself and those charged with governing and administering his vast Kingdom, Ibn Saud set up his own private radio network. The usefulness of radio in controlling his armed forces in battle had persuaded Ibn Saud of the merits of radio.

The Ulema had serious reservations about the introduction of the wireless into the Kingdom, fearing that it was the devil's invention and designed to perform the devil's work. But their opposition became difficult to sustain when they grasped what Ibn Saud had realized at once, that the wireless could be used to propagate Islam and to confound the enemies of the true faith.

The wireless network was highly successful. Ibn Saud ordered more sets, including a portable model which would enable him to keep in touch on his travels.
