In Artawiya, Faisal Ad-Dawish - recovered from the severe wound he had received at the battle of Sibilla - mustered the Mutair and resumed his raids. His attack on Hofuf was frustrated by the determined resistance of the Al-Awazim tribesmen who, though small in number, benefited from a goodly supply of British arms and ammunition. Undeterred, Faisal Ad-Dawish secretly led his men into the Nejd, into Ibn Saud's homeland, where he prepared to attack the King's forces encamped at the well of Al-Gaiah, near the town of Majma'a, north of Riyadh.
On the day before the planned attack, a messenger came to Faisal Ad-Dawish with the news that his son had been killed at Um Urdhuma. Distraught and bent on revenge, Faisal Ad-Dawish ordered that the water-bags of his men should be emptied into the sand. When, the following day, his Mutair warriors attacked, they knew they must conquer or die. They surprised the King's men and, with the advantage of superior numbers, routed them. Those loyal to Ibn Saud who were not killed fled in disarray back to Riyadh.
Faisal Ad-Dawish returned to al-Hasa, his victory against the King's men muted by the death of his eldest son, a loss from which he never fully recovered.
