Azaiyiz, son of Faisal Ad-Dawish, dies on raiding expedition

In the height of the summer, Faisal Ad-Dawish's son, Azaiyiz, led a band of Ikhwan in a series of raids along the Transjordanian border. It was an extraordinary and foolhardy venture. With all but the permanent desert wells dry, Azaiyiz would have no choice but to return with his booty along an easily predictable route.

Although the raids were successful, tribes loyal to Ibn Saud blocked Azaiyiz's return, denying him access to the wells along his path. Finally, although heavily outnumbered, thirst and a conviction of his own rectitude compelled Azaiyiz to order an attack against Um Urdhuma, a fortified well heavily defended by a contingent of Shammar tribesmen under the command of Nida bin Naheer.

The battle was furious, for the Ikhwan knew that they must either take the well or die of thirst. Many of the defenders, including Nida bin Naheer, fell. But the Ikhwan failed to break through.

Amongst those who died was Azaiyiz.
