Undeterred by his earlier rebuff, Charles R. Crane, American philanthropist, again tried to arrange an audience with Ibn Saud. He despatched a cable from Cairo to Jeddah. Ibn Saud replied that he was leaving for Riyadh forthwith and that there was no time to arrange a meeting. Crane decided to follow the King to Riyadh. He travelled to Basra and prepared to take a car through Kuwait into the Nejd.
