USSR first to recognize Ibn Saud as King of Hijaz and Sultan of Nejd
The first foreign government officially to recognize Ibn Saud as King of Hijaz and Sultan Nejd was the Soviet Union.
The Soviet Union sent a representative of ministerial rank to Jeddah, Comrade Karim Khakimoff, a Muslim and a former miner who considered that his responsibilities in the new Kingdom of Hijaz and Nejd included the adoption of Arab garb.
