In refusing to accept Hajji Abdullah's resignation, Ibn Saud not only showed his magnanimity (for, after all, Hajji Abdullah had been a leader of the resistance during the long months of siege); he also sent a message to the establishment in Jeddah that he intended a smooth, well-ordered and peaceful transition from Hashemite to Saudi rule.
The tented pavilion where Ibn Saud received the dignitaries of Jeddah was pitched in the gardens of the Kandarah Villa, now the site of the Kandarah Palace Hotel.
