Gilbert Clayton arrives at Bahra for discussions with Ibn Saud
Sir Gilbert Clayton, head of the Department of British Military Intelligence in Cairo, visited Ibn Saud, his purpose to placate Ibn Saud over the annexation of Aqabah and to ensure that, as far as possible, any matters of dispute between Britain and the new ruler of the Hijaz should be resolved.

They met at Ibn Saud's camp which was pitched near the two villages of Bahra and Hadda. In return for acquiescence over Aqabah, Britain recognized not only Ibn Saud's conquest of the Hijaz but also Ibn Saud's right to the land taken by the Ikhwan in the Wadi Sirhan which ran from Hail northwards into Transjordan.
