Ibn Saud meets Sir Percy Cox in Uqair to draw boundaries (2)
Sir Percy therefore thought it wise to try to resolve the issue of the borders with Ibn Saud before the situation deteriorated. The two men met at Uqair on the Gulf coast, opposite Bahrain. There, after days of negotiation a compromise was reached. For the most part, the two men agreed, and the northern borders of present-day Saudi Arabia were set but there were two areas where the border remained contentious, one with Kuwait, the other with Iraq. These were designated neutral zones. In the two zones, sovereignty was to be shared, the nomads would be free to wander and neither side would be permitted to fortify the borders or engage in any military activity within them.
