Ibn Saud moves south
Ibn Saud moves south

With the walls of Riyadh strengthened and his family safely ensconced in the town, Ibn Saud led his men south. He left Riyadh partly to show his confidence in the security of Riyadh and partly to start the task of reasserting the authority of the Al Saud in the land between Riyadh and the Rub al-Khali. He also judged that, if Ibn Rashid wished to avenge the taking of Riyadh, he would, as a matter of honor, have to defeat Ibn Saud. By moving south, Ibn Saud drew Ibn Rashid away from Riyadh and extended Al Rashid's lines of communication.
