Abdul Rahman, father of Ibn Saud, leads his family into exile

Abdul Rahman departed from Riyadh with his family. According to some accounts, the young Prince Abdul Aziz bin Abdul Rahman Al Saud (Ibn Saud) and his sister Nura travelled into exile in the two pockets of a saddlebag stretched across the back of a camel.

On leaving Riyadh, Abdul Rahman and his family first took refuge with the Al-Murrah tribe. It was among them that the young Ibn Saud learned much of his knowledge of desert craft - an experience which confirmed in him a respect for the way of life of the bedu and the many skills which survival in such an environment demanded.
