From the outset, Abdul Rahman was determined his son, Abdul Aziz (Ibn Saud), should be given a strict religious education. A religious teacher, Qadi Abdullah Al-Kharaji, was given the task of teaching the young prince to read and to learn and revere the Holy Qur'an. Although it is said that Abdul Aziz was initially fonder of hunting than formal lessons, the self-discipline he learned at an early age set him in good stead for the future. His study of the Holy Qur'an led to a life-long delight in hearing recitations of the holy text.
